ABOUT US
Chapter 477
We are also known as LowCountry Sport Aviation and we have our meetings at the Lowcountry Regional Airport. This is an attractive fly-in location for both presenters and those chapter members who wish to fly-in for a social gathering and chapter meeting. The meetings normally will be held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, starting with coffee around 10 am and going until everyone's had a little to eat, a chance for a little hangar talk, and a chance to witness an aviation presentation from either a local, regional, or national presenter covering anything from building details and techniques (fabric, aluminum, composite, and wood), to new rules governing sport and certificated flying, to short flight demonstrations, to future events at local airports. The list goes on and on but will be enfluenced by what the chapter members say they would like to see and the availibility of those presentations. For that reason, the meeting schedule will continue to be somewhat flexible in order to get the highest quality presentations possible at our gatherings.

We have builders of aircraft with thousands of hours of working on their planes (some finished, some not), some that have very little time so far that are still building. Many of our members have extensive backgrounds in all phases of aircraft construction and others are learning. We have members that have finished “kits” and others that have built and are flying “plans built” aircraft. This means that we have a large base of knowledge for those contemplating building an airplane. We even have a few pilots that fly their own certificated planes (factory built).
What we do
We typically meet for a project visit, technical presentation or to hear a guest speaker, who might talk about aviation history, special applications or life experience. Some of our recent technical presentations have included painting your project, composite construction, electrical wiring and installation, upholstery, cabin heating and cooling and more. We’ve toured aviation museums, the Gulfstream factory and Rotomotion (UAV helicopters).
Another great part of our meetings is we eat well! Pizza, cookouts or catered barbecue. If you’re well fed, you’ll have the energy to finish that project, right?
In early December we usually have some type of holiday social/dinner.
Why Join?
By joining EAA Chapter 477 you will be supporting a group dedicated to helping each other build their dream aircraft, and you will be the in the camaraderie of fellow aviation enthusiasts. The more members we have, the stronger and more diverse our Chapter is. You might meet someone interested in, or even building, the same plane you're interested in. You can also get technical help from an expert in a particular aspect of homebuilding (welding, composites, sheet metal, fabric covering, electronics, etc.).
How to join
You'll need to be a member of EAA to join our local Chapter. Once you've joined EAA, just fill out an e-application, or print out this form and mail it to us, or even better yet, drop in on one of our meetings. We hope to see you there!
