2025 Recipient: Zhannah Jacobs
On behalf of the seven members of Our Chapter Scholarship selection committee, I am pleased to announce that our 2025 recipient of a $5000 scholarship is Miss Zhannah Jacobs of North Charleston. This was a very difficult decision this year because all three candidates are fine young people, and all three have been our own Chapter Young Eagles. We wish them all the best in their future aviation adventures.
Zhannah is a Junior at R.B. Stall High School, where she is a leader in Air Force ROTC. She plans to continue her aviation studies in the military after she completes her private certificate. She is looking forward to being with us at Young Eagle rallies, and other chapter activities as her schedule permits. I know I speak for us all in congratulating her. Please give her a hearty welcome to Chapter 477. I would also like to express my appreciation to all the generous Chapter members who made it possible for us to achieve our "matching gift" goal. We have come a long way since our first scholarship of $500! Update as of July 2025: Ziggy soloed out of the Walterboro Airport on June 26th |
2022 Recipient: John Bradley Richards
It was on April 13, 2018 when then 13 year old John Bradley Richards flew for the first time. He was a participant in the EAA Chapter 477 Young Eagles program, and his flight that day was in an RV 6, piloted by Pete Winkelmann. Apparently, John Bradley was smitten. He and his father began to volunteer at nearly every Chapter Young Eagles Rally, passing on to others to joy and experience that he had received. When he turned 16, he was accepted into the CRAFT Flight Training and Simulation Summer Boot Camp, and through that program, he was prepared to solo. Following his solo, he passed his written with flying colors, continued his instruction with CRAFT, flying in a Diamond DA-20. After turning 17, the young Johns Island, SC resident and 4.0 High School student, passed his check ride in Summerville, SC, with FAA Examiner Don Hay on June 14, 2022. From Young Eagle to Private Pilot! EAA Chapter 477 is honored to have made John Bradley Richards the recipient of a $500.00 Scholarship. Congratulations, and well done!
Update as of July 2025: John Bradley complete his multi-engine check ride in June and is now working towards his CFI (Certified Flight Instructor).
